Discover the Adventure of Color - Part 1 of 6

Part 1 of 6 by Sue Rosenbaum, Staff Designer

Gone are the days of taupe, beige and more taupey-beige. The general excitement we are feeling as a nation under a new administration is helping to change our overall outlook on our homes and ourselves. Read along to get a glimpse into the future of color, furnishings and styles.

According to Benjamin Moore’s Color Pulse 2009 the color trends fall into these following 5 catagories. (Remember, as homeowners, we are typically 2 years behind the “curve” of any trend, so stay open minded.) Raw: sands of the world. Paint colors such as Collector’s Item AF-45, Hush AF-95 and Marscapone AF-20. Urban Silence: concrete greens, urban and loft like colors found in Lapland AF-410, Shadow Gray 2125-40 and Wasabi AF 430.
Simplexity: Crossbleeding of color, chameleon like as in Majestic Violet 2068-10, Dried Mustard 2158-10 and Merlot Red 2006-10.
Private Identity: Surprising pairing of organic brights teamed with pales as in Desert Rose 2094-50, Lucerne AF- 530 and Perennial 405.
Hybrid Naturals: earthy and natural found in acidic feeling yellows, yellow based greens, rich and gem inspired purples, oranges are brighter but mid toned, yellow based reds spark a firey accent and blues are slightly yellow influenced.

What color is right for your space? Not a simple question. We must consider these factors when selecting color: how much natural light is in the space, how much artificial light is in the space, what tasks are being performed in the space, who is living or working in this space, what components are staying in the space that will make any color impact and is the space connected or partially connected to any other space so the colors compliment each other.

Come on in to the store and explore these trends in the 2009 Trend Vision Binder specially created for the clients at Jerry’s Paint.
Take a look for yourself at these exciting new colors. If you have a more specific color situation, we have a solution for you. Please call the store to make a 30 minute complimentary appointment at the store with Sue on a Thursday afternoon between 1 and 3:30 p.m. There are limited Saturday appointments also available, generally the 3rd Saturday of the month.

Bring your digital camera with photos of the space. A floor plan is also helpful if you have it available and if you have fabric or wallcovering swatches, bring them. It will help us co-ordinate all the elements of the space. Look for part 2 of 6, here in the Buyer’s Guide, where I will touch on some of the trends in furnishings. I encourage you to follow along with me to learn about the trends in design 2009.

See you soon at the Store!!!!
